To Promote and Preserve National Sovereignty Late yesterday, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves referred HB 488 (Rep. Becky Currie's illegal immigration enforcement bill) to the Senate Jud. B Committee chaired by Democrat Sen. Hob Bryan.
Sen. Bryan is not a friend of enforcement and was one of the 15 senators that voted against the strong Arizona style legislation last year when it passed the MS Senate 34-15. In an apparent show of contempt, Sen. Bryan paced the Senate floor as the bill was debated.
Tate Reeves' referral to Sen. Bryan likely will insure its failure as he does not fear repercussions from his constituents. Bryan has the power to kill the bill by not bringing it up for discussion or a vote at the committee level.
In prior years illegal immigration enforcement has overwhelmingly passed in the Senate but subsequently killed by then Speaker of the House, Billy McCoy.
Lt Gov. Reeves finally spoke publicly to the Clarion-Ledger on the issue. His statement attempts to gain cover by invoking the concerns of opponents of the bill.
ACTIONS TO TAKE:
CallLt. Gov. Reeves --(601) 359-3200 and tell him that his actions are assuring that MS will be a sanctuary for illegal aliens. He is aligning with businesses that break the law by hiring illegal immigrants and he is not respecting the rule of law or the wishes of the vast majority of MS voters. Lt. Gov. Reeves is responsible for thefate of this bill.
Call Sen. Hob Bryan--(601) 359- 3227. Ask him to stand with MS workers and allow a committee vote on HB 488.
Call Gov. Phil Bryant--(601) 359-3150. Thank him for his continued support of HB 488 and the citizens of MS. Ask him to use any resources available to him to get meaningful legislation, and offer your help.
